Highlights
Damp patches do not automatically mean a property needs repointing. Moisture could be entering through a small gap around a vent, failed flashing or another localised defect. That is why inspecting the building properly and identifying the actual cause is so important before recommending major work.
Jake also shares advice on choosing a repointing contractor, from making sure they visit the property and assess the work in person to checking insurance, warranties, previous projects and customer recommendations. A cheap quote may look appealing, but poor-quality masonry repairs can cost far more to correct later.
The conversation also looks at whether repairs to period properties can be completed in stages. Not every issue needs to be addressed immediately, but homeowners need clear advice about what can wait and what could lead to further damage.
