Highlights
The conversation explains why commonly used damp meters do not directly measure moisture. Instead, they detect electrical conductivity, meaning metal beading and other conductive materials can produce high readings even when they are completely dry.
Andy also discusses unnecessary damp-proof course injections, sales-led contractors, independent damp surveyors and the importance of finding a practical middle ground that focuses on solving the customer’s actual problem. In many properties, the underlying issue may be condensation rather than rising damp.
The speakers also examine the Property Care Association, the challenging CSTDB qualification and whether trade-body membership provides homeowners with enough protection against poor workmanship.
